Burgess Winfield Trine was born on December 18, 1908, five months after the death of his Father, David Winfield Trine. Burgess was born deaf, inheriting the same condition as three of his siblings. He was educated at the Michigan School for the Deaf. Like his brothers, he worked on the Fisher Body assembly line. During the Depression he was steadily employed in Flint. In the World War II era he continued to work in the factory that had now converted to manufacturing tanks, trucks, and other military vehicles. In 1944 he was struck down by a piece of heavy metal conveyed overhead above the assembly line. Because he was deaf, he could not hear the warning. He eventually died from this work-related accident on May 23, 1945. Burgess is remembered for his abilities as a bowler and fisherman, having collected many trophies. He is also remembered as having been an attentive caretaker to his mother, and it was in her home that he died on May 23, 1945.
