Kathryn Wald, 87, Velva, ND formerly of Karlsruhe, ND and Minot, ND, died Sunday, November 6, 2005, in a Velva care center.

Kathryn Feist was born on December 12, 1917, the daughter of Frank and Catherine (Senger) Feist, on the family farm southwest of Karlsruhe. She was reared and educated in the Karlsruhe area.

Kathryn was united in marriage to Ambrose Wald on August 3, 1936, in Karlsruhe. They farmed in Karlsruhe for a year and in Norwich, ND, for 12 years. In the spring of 1949, they moved back to Karlsruhe where they owned and operated Ambrose's Bar until their retirement in 1977. Ambrose passed away on May 9, 1993. Following his death, Kathryn continued to live in the Karlsruhe area. In 1996, she moved to Minot and resided at the Milton Young Towers. In 2000 she moved to Velva, residing at the Valley View Manor assisted living home, before entering the Souris Valley Care Center, in May of 2003, where she resided at the time of her death.

Family gatherings where she was able to spend time with her grandchildren were very special and important to Kathryn. Kathryn enjoyed helping out her friends and family who were ill or needed help with a quilt, mending, or sewing. She was an avid gardener, canner and baker, making wedding, anniversary, and birthday cakes. She also enjoyed crocheting.

Kathryn was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Karlsruhe, where she was a Eucharistic Minister. A former member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, Velva, and of St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and Christian Mothers, both of Karlsruhe; a charter member of the Christian Mothers of Velva; the Friendly Circle Homemakers Club of Karlsruhe and was on the McHenry County committee of the ND Centennial Quilt, and was a very active member of Karlsruhe Senior Citizens.

Kathryn is survived by: Children: Audrey Engelhard, Grano, ND; Don (Bertha) Wald, Minot, ND; Robert (Carolyn) Wald, Austin, TX; Mildred (Charles) Bartsch, Bergen, ND; Lindamarie Koengeter, Washington, DC; Sandra (Carl) Valensky, Waterford, MI; Brian (Bonnie) Wald, Minot, ND; Valerie Wald, Minot, ND; Mona (Marvin) Miller, Velva, ND; Tim (Gerri) Wald, Sioux Falls, SD; 39 grandchildren; 51great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; siblings: Eva (John) Deibert, Velva, ND; Emily Sederholm, Elk Grove, CA; Tony W. (Dolores) Feist, Logan, ND; Lynn Ogle, Elk Grove, CA; Paul (Peggy) Feist, Minot, ND; Daniel (Jean) Feist, Minot, ND; Richard Feist, Minot, ND; Jean Williams, Dixon, CA; Agnes Leier, Elk Grove, CA; Dotty Leier, Elk Grove, CA; and sister-in-law Thelma Feist, Elk Grove, CA. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

She was preceded in death by: parents, husband, infant son Patrick, grandson Brent Bartsch, infant granddaughter Rebecca Wald, great-grandson Matt Danielson, brother Edward Feist, sisters Anna Aberle, Helen Feist, and Mary Roselli, and son-in-law Elmer Engelhard.

Visitation: Wednesday, November 9, 2005, from noon until 5:00 p.m. at the Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot, then from 6:00 until 7:00 at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot

Vigil Prayer Service: Wednesday, November 9, 2005, at 7:00 p.m. at St. Leo's Catholic Church, Minot

Mass of Christian Burial: Thursday, November 10, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Karlsruhe, ND

Burial: Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery, Karlsruhe, ND
