"Uncle Mike as he was known to us all, was an exemplary man among us, having come to this county when only ten years of age and lived here ever since. He knew much about pioneer life, and was both entertaining and instructive and his mind seemed to be a great storehouse of useful knowledge. Much honor is due to those who have caused the wilderness to blossom as the rose, and left to us this goodly heritage that we now possess. As a man he possessed business qualifications that could be safely relied on having served three terms as township trustee and other positions of trust. He performed all his duties in an honest, upright business-like manner. But like all good men who have preceded him, the time has come when we must say good bye and pay the last sad tribute of request that a civilized nation owes to its dead, and thank God for the lives of those who have made the world better by having lived in it. And while his words of council, we hear no more we know, thou art gone to join the association of those that were near and dear in this life, where suffering and pains are forever unknown.
