Clyde M. Abel, 80, of 217 E. Avon Road, Chester, a retired employee of Southco Corp. and Kriebel Printing Co., was dead on arrival Wednesday at Crozer-Chester Medical Center, Upland.
Born in Kennett Square, Mr. Abel lived 35 years in Upland and 26 years at his late residence.
He was employed 38 years as purchasing agent for Southco Corp., Tinicum, and retired in 1960; then worked 15 years at Kriebel's Printing Co., Chester, retiring last October.
He was a member of Upland United Methodist Church, where he was a lay leader more than 40 years; a member of Lucius H. Scott Masonic Lodge 352, former scoutmaster of Upland Troop 1 and served as a first lieutenant in World War I.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Warren Abel; three daughters, Mrs. Mary M. Cluelow of Cherry Hill, N.J., and Mrs. Charlotte A. Conner and Mrs. Betty A. Hastie, both of Brookhaven; a sister, Mrs. Blanche Quigley of Pompano Beach, Fla; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Melvin I. Minshall Funeral Home, Middletown and Knowlton Roads, Middletown. Burial will be in Cumberland Cemetery, Middletown.
Calling hours will be Sunday evening at the funeral home. Masonic services will be at 8 p.m.
Memorial contributions to Delchester Lung Association, 722 E. Market St. West Chester, or to the memorial fund of Upland United Methodist Church.
