The son of Mr. & Mrs. Samuel L. Macy, he was the seventh traffic fatality in Tippecanoe County this year. The family moved recently from the Odell community to the West Point address.
Young Macy was the driver of a car that went out of control on Indiana 25, a quarter-mile west of Shadeland at 12:55 a.m. Wednesday (March 6).
He was thrown from the car after it hit a ditch and rolled over three times, investigating police reported.
Taken to the intensive care ward of the hospital, Macy clung to life for over 48 hours.
Born in Lafayette, he graduated from Southwestern High School in 1966 and had worked as an electrician at Purdue University for six months. He was a member of Indiana National Guard Company A and Jackson Heights Methodist Church.
Surviving with the parents are a brother, Dennis V. Macy of Rt. 8, Lafayette, and a sister, Sandy A. Macy, at home. Also surviving are paternal grandmother, Mrs. Lenora Macy, Rt. 11, Lafayette; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Garland Sanders, Attica; and maternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Stella Mayhew, Attica.
Calling was held on Sunday (March 10)from 4 - 9 p.m. at Hippensteele Funeral Home in Lafayette. Services were held in Hippensteele Chapel on Monday (March 11) at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Richard Bowman officiating; interment in West Point Cemetery.
