Son of Christopher & Mary Burk Albright. The family moved to York County in 1836, where he married Mary Ann Shell August 3, 1845, at Wrightsville. In 1860, he was a cigar maker and merchant by trade and stood 5' 9" tall.

A Civil War veteran, who first served at the rank of 1st sergeant with Co. K, 2nd Pa Inf, April 20 - July 26, 1861. Then he enlisted August 24, 1861, in York with Co. K, 87th Pa Inf, and rose to the rank of captain. Captured at the battle of Carter's Woods June 15, 1863, and imprisoned at Libby Prison in Richmond, Macon, Georgia, and Camp Asylum in Columbia, South Carolina. After parole, he was honorably discharged March 10, 1863.
