Job (Jake) Carlock was the 7th child of Dutch born Hanchrist (John Christian) Carlock (1715 to 1803) and Sarah Witmer. Job was born in Rockbridge Co(now Smyth Co) and the Carlock family can trace Hanchrist's arrival here in VA to around 1724 and faimly birhts in this country back to the 1750's.

Job married Sally (Sarah) McDonnold, youngest daughter of daughter of Phillip and Judith McDonnold. (Died in Alpine, TN) Job's wife Sally may have been born at sea shortly after her father's death during the family's journy to the America's, but that is unclear. What is clear is that Job and Sally are the great grand parent's of future Governor of Tennessee Albert Houston Roberts.

Some time in 1815, Sally (Sarah) McDonnold Carlock dies shortly after the birth of their last child Bengamin Lakin Carlock. Job then marries Elizabeth Johnson (b. May 19, 1794, d. April 16, 1876). The date of their union is not readily known to the McDonald Family at the time this memorial was authored.
