Max was given a long name, but he often used simply Max H. Shelton. Max's wife Elsie was a sister of his father's 3rd wife, Hattie Quisenberry. Max and his wife Elsie lived on a farm one mile west and 2 1/2 miles north of Central City for over 15 years. A few years later they moved onto the family farm, the one his father had purchased in 1883, two miles west and 7 3/4 miles south of Central City. Max was a life-long farmer. He raised a lot of livestock, including horses, cattle, hogs, and a few sheep. He raised corn and wheat, too, but mostly to feed his livestock. Max died on the farm. Descendants say the shown here is a very good photo of how he looked.
