Gerald (Jerry) Wayne King, 80, died Saturday, Feb. 21, 1998, at the Hacienda Rehabilitation and Care Center. He had been an area resident for 41 years.
Jerry was born March 14, 1917 in Frazee, Minn., to Leroy and Lillian (Collins) King. He served in the US Army Cavalry and was an avid horseman from that time. He was a pioneer in the development of Miracle Valley as a religious center and was in charge of building the tabernacle and facilities. Eventually he acquired considerable property in the Palominas area and developed an equestrian center off of what is now Kings Ranch Road. Jerry enjoyed putting on all-horse competitive events from dirt track racing, horeshowing, roping, cutting and team penning. Jerry introduced team penning to this area at the late Apache Pointe Ranch, and coordinating professional roping and cutting. He was known for his fine appaloosa horses and was a great supporter of the breed.
Jerry is survived by nine brothers and sisters, Shirley Nelson, Joyce Cole, Earl King, June Ellgen, Virginia Bitterman, Les King, Allen Dale King, John King and Monroe King.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Miracle Valley Cemetery with Pastor Bob Drake officiating. Arrangements are with the hatfield Funeral Home Inc., Sierra Vista. ~ provided by: ginny b
