Hal Burns Foster, age 100, died on Monday, December 8, 2008 in his home in Harrison Township, Michigan. He was born August 2, 1908 in Hume, Missouri to the late George and Dicy Burns Foster.

On June 18, 1937 in Paragon, Indiana, he was united in marriage to the former Julia May Goss. She preceded her husband in death May 22, 1963.

Mr. Foster obtained a bachelor of science degree in Agricultural Science from the University of Missouri. He was employed in dairy manufacturing and technology. As a member of Dairy Technology - an affiliate of Michigan State University, he held several offices including past president. As a former Cub Scout Leader, he was also active with the Masonic Lodge F. & A.M. of Port Huron, and a member of First United Methodist Church of Mount Clemens.

Living near the Clinton River, gave him many opportunities to enjoy the outdoors, by watching nature, and boaters.

A deep thinker, he was an avid reader of fiction, a accomplished photographer, and skeet shooter. Always a people person - he was devoted to his family.

He was a skillful writer of letters and composed the family Christmas newsletter, putting something of himself in everything he wrote.

He is survived by two children; Margery (Samuel) Knapp of Harrison Twp., Joseph (Jean) Foster of Troy, MI, three grandchildren; Samuel David (Leann) Knapp III, Jill (Les) Sheldon, Joel Foster, and three great-grandchildren; Laurie, Evan, and Kirsten.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother Ross Foster, and young son James Huxley Foster.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 12, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church, 57 South Bound Gratiot, Mount Clemens with the Rev. Donna Minarik officiating.

Private inurnment will be held at Christian Cultural Memorial Center, Rochester Hills.

Visitation will be held in the Harold W. Vick Funeral Home, 140 South Main Street, Mount Clemens on Thursday, December 11, 2008 from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. On Friday, he will lie instate at the church from 9:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. the hour of services. Family suggest contributions to First United Methodist Church or a charity of your choice.
