Gustav was a son of Frederick Orlowske. He emigrated to the United States in 1885. He married Theresa Ehrig on November 29, 1900, in White Haven, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, and the ceremony was performed by Rev. Herman H. Bruening. The couple had five children: Friedman, Charles, Louisa, William, and Samuel. He worked as a section foreman for the railroad, and later worked as a fireman for the Lehigh Valley Power House in Sayre, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.
