With his son and family at his side, longtime Plumas County resident Wayne Dalton Batchelor passed from this life peacefully, Saturday morning, Dec. 6, 2008, at Country Villa Nursing and Rehabilitation in Quincy. Born 90 years ago, March 21, 1918, in Oroville, to the late Edward and Lura (Reynolds) Batchelor, Wayne was raised in the Feather River Canyon community of Rich Bar. Wayne graduated from Quincy High School and is a member of the "Class of 1937." Shortly after high school graduation, Wayne entered the armed forces where he served his country honorably as a member of the U.S. Army during World War II and later as one of the original members of the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. While attending Quincy High School, Wayne Boxed competitively and continued his love for the sport competing in the military. Wayne retired from Pacific Gas and Electric where he worked for the company for 18 years as a pipefitter. He returned to Quincy from Benicia, in 1971. Wayne was a member of the Las Plumas Del Oro Chapter No. 8 of E Clampus Vitus (Clampers), Plumas Lodge No. 60 of the Free and Accepted Masons and the Ben Ali Shrine of Sacramento. Wayne had a deep love and respect of the outdoors, where he enjoyed panning for gold, hunting and fishing. As a licensed private pilot he found great pleasure in the freedom of flight. He also enjoyed collecting all types of antiques. In passing Wayne leaves his children Wayne Batchelor of Oroville, Dennis Sullivan of South Carolina, David Batchelor of Sacramento, Robert Batchelor of Valley Springs; daughters June Blackseth of Reno, Nev. and Diane Hollingsworth of Santa Rosa; brother Fred Batchelor of Texas; sister Lura Hammondtree of Oroville, nine grandchildren and six great- grandchildren. He is preceded in death by one brother,Everett Batchelor. Private inurnment will take place in the Quincy East Lawn Cemetery.
