Born in Alabama to William Graves and Caroline Carter. Caroline was more often known as Missouri. The Graves then moved to Texas where they raised cattle. John married Euphemia Aver Keahey 1872 in Texas. Had 9 children in total. John's wife died in 1894. He does not seem to show up in any 1910 census. In 1920 he was still in Texas. He seems to have come to the southern Colorado/Northern New mexico are late in life, possibly to live with his daughter Eva Graves and her husband Ed Foster. The birth date for John on his tombstone is not correct - it should read 1849, not 1859. He died in the Griffith area, just south of Florida Cemetery. Daughter Eva (Roxie) is buried in Greenmount Cemetery, Durango.
