MOODY

Suddenly, on Sunday, February 18, 1883, at 6 P. M., ISABELLA C., widow of the late S. N. Moody.

Funeral from the family residence, 253 Canal street, This (Monday) Afternoon at 4 o'clock. Friends of the family are invited to attend without further notice.

Death of an Estimable Lady

About 6 o'clock yesterday afternoon Mrs. S. N. Moody, residing at No. 253 Canal street, died of apoplexy. Mrs. Moody left her home about 11 o'clock in the morning in the very best of health, to attend service at the Unitarian Church on St. Charles, near Julia street, of which congregation she was a devoted member. After service she called at the residence of Mrs. John Geddes, to pay a visit of condolence on account of the recent death of Mr. Geddes. A short time was spent in conversation, when the family and Mrs. Moody were seated at the dinner table, all apparently enjoying the best of health. Mrs. Moody, however, had been seated but a few moments when she complained of a severe pain in her head, and soon became insensible.

Dr. Walter Bailey, Jr., was sent for, and endeavored to restore her, but without success, and she was removed to her home, where she died a few moments afterwards.

Mrs. Moody was born in Philadelphia on the 3d of November, 1816, and has resided in this city for the past 49 years. She was the widow of Wm. Campbell, whom she married in New York and by whom she had two children - a son who died in infancy, and a daughter who married Mr. W. R. Lyman, President of the Crescent Insurance Company. After a period of widowhood she became the wife of S. N. Moody, the shirt manufacturer, to whom she bore three boys and two girls. Mr. Moody died a few years ago.

The deceased was highly esteemed for her social and domestic virtues, as well as for her charitable labors. She was the leader in establishing a house of reformation for girls, some years ago, and was also the president of an association formed to emeliorate the condition of the insane, which, during its existence, performed excellent work. At the time of her death, she was Vice President of the Christian Woman's Temperance Union of this city.

The funeral will take place from her late residence on Canal street, at four o'clock this evening.
