PINEVILLE — Polly Bailey-Brewer, 81, passed away Sunday, December 3, 2006, at Raleigh General Hospital, Beckley, following a short illness. Mrs. Brewer was a member of Pineville United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was a retired elementary teacher from the Wyoming County Board of Education and was named Teacher of the Year in the 1982-1983 school year. Mrs. Brewer was a 1943 graduate of Baileysville High School, where she was the valedictorian, and was a graduate of Concord College with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She was a member of WVEA, NEA, American Legion Auxiliary, Varney Cline Post 133, A.P.I. and a former member of Baileysville Woman's Club.
Born December 19, 1924, at Baileysville, she was the daughter of the late Dr. Charles B. Bailey (Deceased) and Nettie Short-Bailey (1893-1986). In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George F. Brewer Jr. (1927-1983).
Survivors include two cousins, Thomas Eugene Moody of Brenton and Judy Mason of Fanrock; and her church family.
Service will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday at Calfee Funeral Service Chapel, Pineville, with the Rev. Gerald Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.
