Son of Frank Oscar Gray and Persis Louisa Parkhurst. Frank's father died when Frank was only 2 years old, and Frank was raised by his mother Persis and his grandparents Edward and Louisa Parkhurst. Both Frank and his older brother Marcus apprenticed as salesmen in Boston. In 1908 Frank was promoted to Manager of a building and contracting agency. After graduating from Wentworth Institute in Boston he began his career in the building and architecture trades. He was a licensed building contractor and architect in Boston and Florida, and specialized in "Tudor" style homes. In 1909 he married a young divorcee Elizabeth Gildersleeve. Frank and Elizabeth had daughter Elizabeth "Lizbet" in 1911 and son Basil in 1917. After retirement, Elizabeth and Frank spent their winters in Del Ray Florida, and their summers in Weston, MA.
Elizabeth died in 1962 and c. 1967 Frank married second Ms. Carroll MacDonald.
Frank died in Florida in 1971. He had had Alzheimer's for about 5 years.
