George F. Ginder, 64, Myerstown RD 2, was killed Wednesday afternoon when he was struck by a Penn DOT truck while working along the shoulder of a road north of Palmyra. The accident occurred at 3 p.m. on Legislative Route 38057, one mile south of Route 22. Jonestown state police say Ginder, a supply clerk for PennDot, was walking downhill on the road where workers were repairing the shoulder. He was sweeping extra gravel from the road when he was hit by the truck. Robert Lee Kleinfelter, 20, 600 Walnut St., Lebanon, was identified as the driver of the truck. He was backing the truck down the road to hook onto a gravel loader. He apparently did not see Ginder, who had his back to the truck. The truck struck Ginder, pinning him under it. He was taken to the Good Samaritan Hospital and pronounced dead at 5:15 p.m. by Dr. John Menges. Trooper John Ploxa investigated the accident. Ginder was the husband of Marian Buser Ginder. He was born in Fontana, a son of the late Peter and Cora Bachman Ginder. He was a retired employee of the Bethlehem Steel Corp., Cornwall Mines. He retired there in 1971 after 30 years work as a millwright. Ginder was a member of the United Labor Council Blood Bank, secretary for 20 years for the United Steelworkers Local 2657 and on the Cerebral Palsy board of directors. He was the Democratic committeeman for Heidelberg Township for many years and a charter member of the Heidelberg Sportsman's Club. Surviving in addition to his wife are five sons, George R., and James F., of Myerstown RD 2, Peter W., Edward and Glenn P., of Schaefferstown; one daughter, Marilyn, wife of Charles Yahn, Schaefferstown. Also surviving are two brothers, Harold, Fontana, and Charles, Hummelstown; three sisters, Mrs. Esther Greiner of Elizabethtown, Mrs. Miriam Meyer of Annville RD 1 and Mrs. Faye Bowman of Cleona and 16 grandchildren.
