Retired Chief Warrant Officer 3 Curtis Stanley Roberts, age 71, of Ozark died Wednesday evening, Dec. 17, 2008, in Southeast Alabama Medical Center.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, in the Chapel of Holman Funeral Home of Ozark with the Rev. William Hart officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens with full military honors, Holman Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from noon until service time.
CW3 Roberts was born July 20, 1937, in Lincoln County, Tenn., to the late Cecil and Ora Lee Wells Roberts. He grew up in Huntsville and entered the Army in 1956, retiring in 1981. He was a Bronze Star recipient in Vietnam and 1974 Soldier of the Year at Fort Carson, Colo. Mr. Roberts moved to Ozark following his retirement and started the R.O.T.C. program at Pike County High School in Brundidge. He received his bachelors degree and masters degree from Troy University. He and his son, Kent, attended Troy at the same time. Mr. Roberts was then employed with Civil Service at Fort Rucker as operations security officer. He was a member of Sandy Hill Baptist Mission in Sand Hill, La.
Survivors include his wife, Geneva Smith Roberts of Ozark; two daughters, Carrie Roberts and Angel Roberts of Ozark; three sons and one daughter-in-law, Kent and Carol Ann Roberts of Montgomery, Tony Roberts of Clanton and Corey Roberts of Ozark; one sister, Jean Ennis of Huntsville; and one brother, Wayne Vaughn of Watertown, Tenn.
