Betty J. McKown, age 84 of Le Sueur, died Wednesday, Dec. 17, at the Gardenview Nursing Home in Le Sueur.
She was born on December 29, 1923 in Pipestone, Minnesota to Herbert and Nellie (McCorkle) Knudtson. Betty graduated from Pipestone High School and attended Hamline University. She then attended nursing school at the Jewish Hospital School of Nursing and graduated as a Registered Nurse. She married Richard McKown on September 26, 1943 in Cincinnati, Ohio. They made their home in Le Sueur and she worked as a Registered Nurse at the Minnesota Valley Memorial Hospital where she was also the Director of Nursing. She was a member and former Elder of the Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the Eastern Star, Hospital Auxiliary and the Le Sueur Country Club where she achieved a hole-in-one. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and enjoyed playing bridge, knitting, reading and visiting family and friends.
She is survived by her daughters, Ginny (Mike) Sitzer of Rochester, Judy (Pat) Eastwood of Fifty Lakes and Karen Rayner of Petaluma, California; She is survived by 7 grandchildren, Ben Sitzer, Megan (Bruce) Rix, Jon Sitzer, Casey Sitzer, Elizabeth (Victor) Murphy, Rachel (Ryan) Rice and Michelle Rayner; 5 great-grandchildren, Shea and Ellen Murphy, Lucas and Addison Rice and Maisie Rix and a brother, Jerry Knudtson of Charleston, Indiana. Her husband preceded her in death in 1976.
Funeral will be on Monday, Dec. 22, at 11:00 a.m. at the Presbyterian Church in Le Sueur. Visitation will be on Sunday, Dec. 21, at the Kolden Funeral Home in Le Sueur from 4-7 p.m. and 1 hour prior to services at church the morning of the service. Interment will be in Mound Cemetery, Le Sueur.
