The Herrera Family is deeply grateful to JoeDoeForty1 for his generosity of time and energy to provide this photo of Grandmother Gertrude's gravesite.
June 19, 2012 - My great-grandmother, Gertrude, died in 1937 away from her family of origin leaving a husband, two children, and a history that until recently was known only to very few. She was the third of Lawrence and Beatrice's children to die. The first, Rudolph I, an infant son, died in 1910. The last child, Eugene, died in 2010 at 103. Until about three years ago, no one knew exactly what happened to Gertrude. Today, after 75 years, I have confirmed her birth date. Now, we know when she was born, where she lived, how she died, and where she was born. We have the sole photograph of her that we know about. I am so deeply grateful to everyone involved in putting together her history. It means so much to her descendants. I feel that now, at long last, Grandmother Gertrude can rest in peace.
In June 2013, I had the great and intimate experience of visiting great-grandmother Gertrude's grave. The circle is closed. I am so grateful to Damian and Omar who took me to the gravesite.
