Married Robert Selden Garnett in New York on 24 January 1857. She then accompanied her new husband to Washington Territory, where the U. S. Army had sent him to establish and build a new fort, named Simcoe in what would become Yakima County, Washington. It was at Fort Simcoe on 28 February 1858 that she gave birth to their son Arthur Nelson Garnett. Sadly, at Fort Simcoe, Washington Territory, she died of fever on 17 September 1858 and baby Arthur died six days later on 23 September. The grieving husband and father accompanied the remains of his wife and baby back to New York for burial.
