Records differ as to whether her middle name was Olivet or Olivent. Her middle name may actually have been "Oliphant" which was her grandmother's maiden name.

She was the daughter of Henry Abner and Ferabee/Feraby Tate Waters

Married Leroy Pence March 24, 1844 in Gilmer Co. Georgia.

During the Civil War Leroy Pence served with Co F 60th Ga Infantry Regt. He was wounded in battle and captured at Frederick, MD July 10, 1864. He died of his wounds September 12 and was buried at Mt. Olive Cemetery. (His future son-in-law William J. DeFore was at his side when he was wounded).

On her tombstone her date of birth is inscribed December 25, 1825 but in her application for a Civil War pension she stated the date was December 20, 1822.
