OCEANA — Nancy Gunter departed this life Thursday, Aug. 2, 2007, at the age of 72 years, 6 months and 26 days at her residence surrounded by her loving family following a long illness.

Born Jan. 7, 1935, at Oceana, she was the daughter of the late Asa Alfred "Acy" Aliff (1897-1980) and India Mae Short-Aliff (1906-1970).

Mrs. Gunter was a homemaker, worked for Oceana Medical Center for 35 years and was of the Protestant faith. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, sports and traveling.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Lonnie Ray Aliff (1923-1926) and a sister, Virginia "Ginny" Bell Aliff-Morgan (1932-2009).

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 51 years, Thomas Gunter (B. 1933) whom she married on January 25, 1956 in Kopperston, Wyoming County, WV (per WV Marriage License Register, Wyoming County, WV, 1956, Page 120, Application Date: January 17, 1956); two sons, Thomas E. Gunter II and his wife, Vicki, of Strongsville, Ohio, and Mark L. Gunter and his wife, Cathy, of Oceana; two brothers, Jackie Lee Aliff (B. 1929) of Kopperston and Johnny Aliff (B. 1926) of Oceana; six grandchildren, Summer Burris of Strongsville, Thomas E. Gunter III of Strongsville, James M. Gunter of Strongsville, Christina Gunter of Oceana, Marcus Gunter of Oceana and Robert Gunter of Strongsville; two great-grandchildren, Skyla Burris and Kylie Burris, both of Strongsville; and a host of family and friends.

A celebration of Nancy's life will be 11 a.m. Saturday at New Life Community Church, Jesse, with the Rev. Jay Morgan officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny.
