Born Feb. 15, 1927, in Oceana, he was the son of the late Jeff Ambergey (1892-1979) and Annie "Laura" Griffith-Amburgey (1897-1976).
Roy was of the Baptist faith. He was a member of the DAV, VFW, American Legion and served in the U.S. Army. He enjoyed gardening and being with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Lewis-Amburgey (Deceased); three brothers, James Amburgey (Deceased), Jimmy Amburgey (1938-2002) and Posey Edward Amburgey (1920-1945); and four sisters, Letha Amburgey-Gregory (Deceased), Garnette Amburgey-Ward-Faulkner (1922-Deceased), Dimple Belle Amburgey-Maynor (1932-2004) and Mary Ellen Amburgey (Deceased).
Survivors include two brothers, Harry Lee Amburgey (1929-2010) of Oceana and Charles "Ike" Edward Amburgey (1940-2011) of Oceana; and special friends, Joe Francis, Mr. and Mrs. Don Brumfield, Virginia and Bill Toler, and Dilmeda, Kelsey and Mariah Francis.
He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In accordance to Mr. Amburgey's wishes, graveside service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, at Palm Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Matheny.
