Ida was the second of twelve children born to William Wesley and Martha (York) Sawyer. She married Robert Miles Kivett in 1887 and they were the parent of six children: Martha E., Mamie A., Mary Myrtle, Dewie Manilla, Edward W. and Fernando Vernon.

She was the mother of Mrs. Edgar York, of Indianapolis, Mrs. Walter Rushton of Amo, Mrs. Earl Walls of Clayton; sister of Dayton Sawyer of Hazelwood and Viola Boyd of Mooresville and Andrew Sawyer of New Jersey. Also survived by 22 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.
