Joseph Parker Ballinger, Sr. was born in Nashville Tennessee. He graduated in pharmacy from the University of Tennessee and was a pharmacist on a ship in the Navy during WWII. He met and married Vesta Irene Duckworth who was also in the Navy serving in a Naval Hospital in Florida. They married in Florida on May 25,1944 and they moved to Louisiana where he owned a Pharmacy in Bastrop, LA. They had three sons.
