Last Rites Are Held For Ray R. Andre
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 8, at Blanchard Presbyterian church for Ray R. Andre, Greenfield township farmer and carpenter, who passed away early Sunday, Nov. 5, 1950, at his farm home near Greenfield, N.D. The Rev. Bernard McLain of Mayville officiated. Mrs. Merilla Brasel and Miss Nora Thane sang "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" and "In the Garden". Mrs. Merton Sheldon was at the piano.

Pall bearers were five nephews, Robert, Bud, Glen Keith, and Gene Porter and Alonzo Peihl. Because of the severe weather conditions, the committal service was also held in the church. Burial was in the Hunter cemetery on Nov. 11th.

Raymond Ross Andre, eldest child of Adna P. and Barbara Kohl Andre was born in Cedar county, Iowa, Nov. 30, 1878. He was married to Nellie Porter in Jones county, Iowa, Jan. 11, 1906. They came to North Dakota in 1915, living at New Rockford for two years. They came to Blanchard community in 1917 and moved to Greenfield township in 1921.

He was a member of the Blanchard Presbyterian church and also served as an elder in the church. Mr. Andre had been in comparatively good health and had worked around the farm all day Saturday. He was stricken with a heart attack early Sunday morning and passed away in his sleep about four o'clock that morning.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Ethbert L. Andre, who lives on the home farm, and a daughter (Lucille) Mrs. Chester Burley of Blanchard; also seven grandchildren, Alice Mae, Harold and Harvey Burley, and Jimmie, Connie, Douglas and Raymond Andre.

Three brothers survive, Melvin and Marvin of Mechanicsville, Iowa, and Leo of Martelle, Iowa; and two sisters, Esther and Pearl Andre, also of Mechanicsville. The brothers and sisters were all present for the funeral services. (Hawkeye Record, Mount Vernon, IA, November 23, 1950)
