Daniel and Polly had five children: Daniel Oliver, William Alexander, John Oliver, Catherine and Abigail. Polly also raised a sixth child, Mary Johnson, who was Daniel's daughter with Isabel Johnson. William and Catherine moved to Clarke County, Alabama, in the late 1850s.
Mary Polly Oliver is found in historical records as either Mary Oliver, Polly Oliver, Polly McDonald or Mary McDonald. After Daniel's death, she is sometimes found under her maiden name of Oliver. Her tombstone reads "Mary McDonald".
Daniel is buried at McDonald's Chapel Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Moore County NC, between Foxfire and Pinehurst. In 1842 that was the family's burying ground. It is also said to be the site of the original McDonald homesite following the family's emigration from Scotland.
