Mrs. Lizzie Walker, a former resident of Sullivan county, and well known in Carlisle and vicinity, died Saturday, February 13, at the home of her brother Virgil Farmer, in Vincennes, she having made her home with him for the past four years. Mrs. Walker had been in failing health for the past three or four years and her condition gradually grew worse until death came to relieve her.
Lizzie Farmer was born Sept. 12, 1858, and was the daughter of A. Farmer, of Freelandville, being at the time of death 56 years, 5 months and one day of age. She was married to Dr. John F. Berry on February 1, 1883, and to this union was born one son, Roscoe R. Dr. Berry departed this life on September 22, 1884.
Mrs. Berry became the wife of John Walker October 10, 1899. Mr. Walker died March 22, 1905.
Mrs. Walker for a time made her home in Chicago with her son, Roscoe Berry, but on account of failing health went to Vincennes as above stated to live with her brother.
She is survived by one son, Roscoe Berry, of Chicago, three step children, Vince Walker, of Carlisle and Mrs. W. J. Brentlinger and Mrs. Shirley Vancleave, of Terre Haute. Also by one brother, Virgil Farmer, of Vincennes and one uncle, John S. Cox, of Freelandsville.
Mrs. Walker was a member of the Christian church having joined when 15 years of age at Freelandville.
The remains were brought here from Vincennes Monday morning, after short service at the Farmer home conducted by the Rev. Roll, pastor of the Second Christian church of Vincennes. The remains were taken from here to Indian Prairie, where after services conducted by Rev. Clive McGuire, pastor, of the Indain Prairie Baptist church interment was made in the I. P. cemetery.
