MIDLAND,MARYLAND -- William Edwin "Red Cap" Campbell, 71, of Egle Nursing Home, Lonaconing, formerly of Railroad Street, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 1997, at Sacred Heart Hospital. He was a patient at Egle Nursing Home for one year.

Born Feb. 22, 1926, in Midland, he was a son of the late John J. and Cora (Lancaster) Campbell. He also was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret "Peg" (Hersick) Campbell, May, 1975; and one son, Vernon Eric Campbell.

Mr. Campbell was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society, Midland. He was a life member of Midland Volunteer Fire Department serving over 40 years, a life member of Midland Sportsmen's Club, Alvin C. Neat Post No. 5280 VFW, a U.S. Army Air Force veteran serving in World War II, and a graduate of LaSalle High School, Class of 1944.

Surviving are one son, John "Ed" Campbell and wife Elizabeth, Midland; one sister, Eileen O'Hara and husband Bob, Pittsburg, Calif.; daughter-in-law Nancy Campbell, Midland; four grandchildren, Eric Campbell, Paige Jacobs, Jeremy Jefcoat, and Joseph Jefcoat; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Eichhorn-McKenzie Funeral Home, Lonaconing, on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Midland, on Monday at 9:30 a.m. with the Rev. Ed Hendricks as celebrant.

Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Midland.

A Christian wake service will be held at the funeral home on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. with Sister Joan Maenner, OSF Pastoral Life Director.

Pallbearers will be Craig Alexander, John Cullen, Mike Spataro, Ronnie Rennie, Ray Cutter, and Jim McMahon.

Alvin C. Neat Post No. 5280 will hold a memorial service at the funeral home on Sunday at 7:15 p.m.

The Midland Volunteer Fire Department and the Ladies Auxiliary will hold a memorial service at the funeral home on Sunday at 7:30 p.m.
