Funeral Services in honor of Appie will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday May 13, 2008 at Harvest Bible Chapel, 7515 E. Long Look Drive, Prescott Valley, AZ. The final resting place for Appie will be Humboldt Cemetery, Humboldt, Arizona.
Appie "Neta" Thornton, age 78, of Humboldt, Ariz., went home to be with her Lord with her family at her side, May 8, 2008. Neta was born Dec. 23, 1929, in Eastland, Texas, to John and Mary Samford (Case). Her family moved to Arizona in 1935. She has been a resident of Humboldt, Ariz., for the past 36 years.
Neta was an avid reader, especially of God's Word. She loved sharing God's Word with everyone she came in contact with and was very active in the community with Women's Bible Study. She would always open her door to in need. One of her greatest joys has been spending time with her family, especially her best friend and husband of 51 years, Leonard "Sparky" Thornton. She loved the great outdoors and enjoyed spending time gardening, bird watching and camping with her husband and family.
Neta was a very loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Leonard "Sparky" Thornton of Humboldt; sons, Michael Thornton and wife Cheryl of Phoenix, Ariz., David Thornton and wife Melanie of Pittsford, N.Y., and Leonard "Skip" Thornton and wife "Pete" of Phoenix, Ariz.; daughters, Susan Bennett and husband Gene of Young, Ariz., Linda Cook and husband Charlie of Dewey, Ariz.; and her beloved dog Gidget whom she called "Pretty Girl". She has 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters and two brothers. She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
A celebration of Neta's life will take place 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, 2008, at the Harvest Bible Chapel Ministry Center, 7515 Long Look Drive in Prescott Valley.
