Ted retired in 1986 after 41 years with the Whirlpool Corporation. For six years he was a part-time driver for Expressway Dodge and he was a sampler at Auntie Anne's Pretzels for two years. He was master of Reed Masonic Lodge # 316 (1977) and member, elder, deacon at Parke Memorial Presbyterian Church. He also sang in the choir and played Santa at the church as well.

He was a musician and played the guitar.

Ted was married for 55 years to the former Helen Krock.
