Enlisted August 22, 1862, Mustard out a corporal June 26, 1865 at Rattle Rock, Arkansas. He was in the Battle of Pararie Grove, Arkansas. Mary's father was born in Connecticut. Mary was married before to John J. Galpin, and became a widow in 1867. The family moved in 1851 through the Erie Canal to Camp Point, Illinois. In 1856 his family was one of the first in Atchison County, Kansas, he pre-empted 160 acres of farm land. He was a well-known citizen.
