Harold Ford, 87, of Vevay, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, at Swiss Villa Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Vevay.

He was born June 16, 1921, in Vevay, the son of Dilver and Bessie Bennett Ford. He was raised in Switzerland County and was a 1941 graduate of Patriot High School. He was an Army veteran of World War II and received three Bronze Stars. He was married Oct. 2, 1947, to Marjorie Butters. He was married July 21, 1972, to Hazel Hamilton Harlow. He worked for several years at Seagram's & Schenley Distilleries in Lawrenceburg. He retired from the Jefferson Proving Ground in Madison after 28 years of service in explosive ordinance disposal. He enjoyed farming, his horses and golfing with his buddies. He also enjoyed socializing and lending a helping hand. He attended the Center Square Baptist Church and was a member of the Vevay American Legion Post 185, the Vevay VFW Post 5396 and the Florence Masonic Lodge 27 F & AM.

He is survived by two sons, Robert Wayne Ford of Jeffersonville and Jerry Lynn Ford of Socorro, N.M; one daughter, Karen Sue Wentworth of Vevay; two stepdaughters, Libby Leap of Madison and Linda Thieman of Pleasant; one brother, Eddie Ford of Madison; three sisters, Cleta Markland of Shelbyville, Jeannie Crawford of Chesterton and Thelma Robinson of Largo, Fla.; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Hamilton Ford, who died Aug. 5, 1997; his parents; and two sisters, Alfredia Ford and Alberta Reed.

The funeral was at Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home. Burial was in Vevay Cemetery in Vevay. Military honors were conducted graveside by the Vevay American Legion Post 185 and the Vevay VFW Post 5396.
