John Ritter Meets Death Near Albion
John Ritter, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Ritter, was killed west of Albion by a work train Friday. Two other men also died from injuries received. No one seems to have seen the accident, but it is supposed that the men, to get out of the way of a fast train, stepped up on the other track and in front of the work train. The men were employed upon the railroad. The body of Mr. Ritter was brought Lawton and funeral held Sunday afternoon, Rev. D. C. Gentz officiating. Members of the I. O. O. F. attended in a body, as also did the G. A. R.
John Newton Ritter was born in Augusta, Kalamazoo Co., Feb. 1874, and departed his life June 14, 1918, at the age of 44 years.
He was married to Delia Latham in 1891 and to this union seven children were born, of which 5 departed this life in infancy. Two of the seven children which are living are Halley Ritter of Jackson and Hazel at home.
He has been a faithful and loving husband and father. He leaves to mourn, a wife, son, daughter, father, mother, one brother, two sisters, also hosts of relatives and friends.
He was a member of the I. O. O. F. lodge of Galesburg, No. 364, of which he was past noble grand.
