Joseph Armstrong, 64, died on Saturday, June 7, 2003, at the Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM on Wednesday, June 11, 2003, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, MN with Rev. Gary Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Pauli Cemetery rural, Thief River Falls, MN.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5-8 PM at the Johnson Green Funeral Home in Thief River Falls with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the services at the church on Wednesday.

Joseph Gerald Armstrong was born April 22, 1939, at Strathcona, MN, son of Lee and Francis (Novak) Armstrong. He was raised and educated in country schools, graduating from the Agricultural College in Crookston in 1957. He entered the US Air force in 1958 and served in Okinawa, Japan, as an airplane mechanic and was honorably discharged in 1962. After his service time, Joe worked between California and Florida as a Federal Fruit and Vegetable Inspector.

On April 6, 1963, he was united in marriage to Virginia "Ginny" Kaye Finstad. In 1965, together they purchased the Finstad family farm where they made their home and have farmed since raising registered Herford cattle and grain.

Joseph was and avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed camping and traveling. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, the St. Hilaire Coffee Club, a former member of the Minnesota Deer Hunters Association, Barley and Wheat Growers, Thief River Falls Legion.

He is survived by his wife Ginny of Thief River Falls, MN; two children: Lynell & Bob Wayne of Thief River Falls, MN; and Nicolle & Chris Ellison of Harwood, MN; two grandchildren Erica and Erin Wayne; four brothers Charles & Janet Armstrong of Crookston, MN; David & Rosie Armstrong of Euclid, MN; Art & Janeth Armstrong of Lander, WY; and Harry & Lorraine Armstrong of Breckenridge, MN; four sisters: Nancy & Galen Pederson of Manteo, NC; Ellen & Wallace Johnson of Detroit Lakes, MN; Agnes Selin of Red Lake Falls, MN; and Esther Cota of Red Lake Falls, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
