SOUTH WEBER – Gene Austin Greer, 83, passed away Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at his home in South Weber.

He was born March 4, 1925, in Malad, Idaho, son of Taul Monroe Greer and Mary Elizabeth Hill.

He married Fern Jones on August 14, 1943 in Malad, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple.

During World War II, Gene fought in Okinawa where he was wounded and received a purple heart.

He worked for Davis County School District for a number of years. He was also employed for many years by South Weber City where he rendered countless hours of service to the community. He also served as a volunteer firefighter.

Gene is survived by his wife, Fern, of South Weber and his daughters: Julie (Melvin) Wise of Montpelier, Idaho; Dixie (Sander) Bybee of Blackfoot, Idaho; Donna (Dean) Tolman of South Weber and Jane (Brent) Johnson of Cedar City. Also surviving are his sister, Alene Bullock, of Fort Collins, Colorado, 18 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Taul Greer, Jr., and his sister, LaRene Webb.

Family members would like to thank the staff of Access Hospice for their timely and compassionate care.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 6, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the LDS Mountain View Building of the South Weber Stake, 2620 East 8200 South, South Weber, with Bishop Samuel Stanger officiating. Family and friends may call on Friday at Myers Roy Mortuary, 5865 South 1900 West from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday at the church from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services.

Interment, Cherry Creek Cemetery in Cherry Creek, Idaho at 2:30 p.m.
