Ruby Fay Grant 1924 - 2008 Peters Funeral Home-Wasco Ruby Fay Grant was born April 5, 1924 in Hollister, California to Joseph and Mabel (Moore) DeVoe the youngest of 8 children. Ruby's father passed away when she was 9 years old. Ruby and family moved to Wasco in 1940, when she was a sophomore and graduated from Wasco High School with the Class of 1942. Ruby worked on the Ration Board during World War II and when her future husband returned from the service they wed. She married Sterling Wesley Grant in 1944 and they began their family and life. Ruby worked as bookkeeper for the family farm, L.A. Grant & Sons from 1948 to 1952 and as a waitress at the Cottage Fountain. But most of her time was spent as a homemaker, raising her children and leading in their activities. Ruby was a 4-H leader for 18 years. She was active in her church, the First United Methodist Church becoming a member when she first moved to Wasco. She served as a Sunday school teacher, in the UM Women's Group was the church historian and baked the Lasagna for the mini-bazaar. She was also a member of the Wasco Historical Society, serving as president and the Thursday Girls. Her son, Sterling Joe Grant who passed away in 2004 and husband, Sterling Wesley Grant who passed away in 2006 preceded Ruby in death. She is survived by her children, Katherine Wentz and husband, Roger; Susan Lake and husband, Robert; Jeff Grant and wife, Kathy; grandchildren, Kirk Hill and wife, Kelly; Julie Olsen and husband, Brian; Tamara Grant; Amanda Bennett and husband, Scott; Brooke Grant; David Lake and Carolyn Lake; Peter, Kara and John Grant; 9 great- grandchildren, Bailey, Wyatt, Gage and Luke Olsen; Alexis, Jordan and Owen Bennett; Allyson and Grant Hill. Her sister, Mabel Renfrow of Hollister; and brothers-in-law, Loren S. Grant and wife, Merle and Lynn A. Grant and wife, Joyce; and many loving nieces, nephews and other family members also survive her. A graveside service will be held Friday, January 2, 2009 at 10 a.m. at Wasco Memorial Park for Ruby Fay Grant, age 84, of Wasco who passed away at home on December 28, 2008.
