Civil War Union Army Soldier. He was residing in Orange, New Jersey when he was mustered in at age 21 as a Private in Company C, 2nd New Jersey Volunteer Infantry on May 27, 1861. His regiment was first send to Washington, DC, then to northern Virginia. In March 1862 his service came to an end while posted at Fairfax Court House, Virginia. He was part of detail that was guarding a newly erected telegraphy station when he was accidentally shot in the head by a comrade while taking his rifle from a weapons stack.

He left behind a wife, Julia, and a son, William H. He married Julia Ann Davis on March 31, 1854, in North Manlius, Onondaga County, New York, and their son William Henry was born on February 7, 1855.

On February 18, 1864 his wife Julia filed for a US Army Widow's pension (Application #45564, Certificate #83781).

She later married Newton Daniels on October 1, 1864.
