Funeral Services will be held 10:30 Monday, August 27, 2007 in St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Walum, ND. Visitation will be held 1:00 to 3:00 Sunday, August 26, 2007 in Quam-Plaisted-Cushman Funeral Home, Cooperstown, ND and will continue one hour prior to services in the Church. Prayer Service will be held 3:00 Sunday, August 26, 2007 in Quam-Plaisted-Cushman Funeral Home, Cooperstown, ND. Interment will be in St. Olaf Cemetery, Walum, ND.

Carl I. Goplen, 93, Walum, ND, was born January 16, 1914 near Hannaford, ND, the son of John and Annie (Odegaard) Goplen. He grew up and attended rural school there.

Carl farmed in the Hannaford and Walum area. He married Martha Holm Norgaard February 5, 1963 in Los Angeles, CA. The couple lived in Walum. Martha died April 15, 1987. Carl continued to make his home in Walum. He married Joanne Kalland May 29, 1993 in St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Walum. The couple made their home there. Carl died Wednesday, August 22, 2007 from injuries suffered in an automobile accident near Hannaford.

Carl enjoyed farming. At the age of 69, he took up aviation and flew his own UltraLight and flew until he was 80 years old. He loved making and improving the farm machinery and equipment he used on his farm. He loved and enjoyed all cars, new and old.

Carl is survived by his wife, Joanne Goplen, Walum, ND; one step-daughter, Carol (Mike) Phillips, Grants Pass, OR; one brother, Gilman (Vivian) Goplen, Cooperstown, ND; four step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great-grandchildren; one step-daughter-in-law, Shirley (Terry) Short, Cooperstown, ND; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Annie; his first wife, Martha; his brother, Orville; his step-son, Maynard Norgaard; and one step-grandson, David Norgaard.

Services: Visitation will be Sunday from 1 to 3, with a prayer service at 3, in Quam-Plaisted-Cushman Funeral Home, Cooperstown, N.D., and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30, followed by the funeral at 10:30, in St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Walum. Burial: St. Olaf Cemetery, Walum.
