Mother of State Supervisor of Forestry Geo. C. Joy Dies at Chehalis - Funeral Held Tuesday Afternoon
Mrs. Mary Jane Joy, mother of Brule Supervisor of Forestry George C. Joy of Chehalis, died at the home of the latter on R. F. D. 4 near Claquato Sunday evening April 18. Mrs. Joy was 88 years of age. She was born in Clinton, Ark. and crossed the plains with her parents to California in 1852. February 6, 1855 at Coulterville, Calif. she was married to Oliver H. Joy whose death occured some years ago at his family home at Boistfort in the upper Chehalis valley. Mr. Joy and his family came to Lewis County and settled at Boistfort where they resided until his death. Of more recent years Mrs. Joy had made her home with her son, George C. Joy, and she had resided in the Chehalis valley for the past 45 years. During her whole life she was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church and had always taken an active part in church work.
Mrs. Joy's surviving relatives are a sister, Mrs. Catherine Duncan, who lives at Ukiah, Calif., a brother S. P. Counts at Mariposa, Calif., and four sons, George C. Joy of Chehalis, Benjamin of Portland, Ore., W. H. and Oliver of Challenge, Calif.
Funeral services were held at the Fissal Funeral Home Tuesday afternoon followed with burial at Claquato. Rev. L. K. Turner officiated.
