Alice Ellen Bader, 93, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2009, at her home in Wilsall, Mont.

She was born Sept. 23, 1915, to Norman and Minnie Frazier in Crystal, N.D., the ninth of 10 children. To find work during hard times, the family moved several times during her youth, including to North Dakota, Montana, Wisconsin, Idaho and Washington. She worked alongside her parents and siblings topping sugar beets, herding sheep and picking apples, potatoes, beans and cherries to help make a living.

She married Charles "Bud" Olson in 1933. They had a daughter, Delsie, and the union ended in 1934.

She married Archie Berry in 1935, settling with their daughter, Shirley, in California during World War II. After the war, they settled in Denver, Colo., and divorced in 1946.

On July 4, 1952, she married Otto E. Bader in St. Francis. He worked with grain elevator construction, and the couple moved often, including to Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, Oklahoma and Texas as jobs required.

In 1953, they had a daughter, Charlene. The couple settled in Garden City in 1955, with Otto starting his own business, Grain Elevator Maintenance Co. Inc., and the couple also owned Bader's Trailer Court in the 1970s and 1980s.

During the couple's 23 years in Garden City, they were active members of St. James Lutheran Church, where Mrs. Bader served as president of the LWMF, taught Sunday school for about 10 years and sang in the choir.

They retired in 1978 to Wilsall, Mont., where they raised registered Morgan horses and were members of the Shields River Lutheran Church in Wilsall, later becoming members of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Livingston, Mont.

Mrs. Bader also loved to crochet, read, bake and make afghans for her family and friends.

The Baders celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2002. Otto died in January 2003.

She also was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and six brothers.

Funeral was at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Livingston, Mont.

Internment was at Wilsall Cemetery.
