"Purd" Melton died at the age of 48 in Texas. His correct name was John Purd Melton but he went by the name of G. Purd Melton. He had been a resident of San Angelo, Texas for 25 years and was a member of the Masonic Lodge there. He had been a barber for twenty years. He never married.
G. Purd Melton, son of Stephen D. and Lucy A. Melton, was born Sept. 25, 1895, and departed this life July 23, 1945, in a hospital at San Angelo, Texas. Mr. Melton had been a resident of San Angelo for 25 years and was a member of the Masonic Lodge there. He is survived by three brothers, Kate of Webb City, Mo., Clifford of Ozark, and Bill of Seneca, Mo.; four sisters, Effie Stubbs and Birdie McGinnis of Ozark, Flora Bray of Seattle, Wash., and Lucy Marenholtz of Hanover, Germany; his stepmother, Mrs. Minnie Melton of Seminole, Okla.; five half-brothers, Everett of Cassville, Mo., Earl of Seneca, Mo., Harold of Springfield, Virgil and Loyce of California, and two half-sisters, Nola Whisman of Texas and Bessie Cottrell of Seminole, Okla. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon, July 29, in the Chaffin Funeral Home in Ozark by Rev. Worth Caughron with burial in the Highlandville cemetery under direction of the Chaffin Funeral Home.
