Two years before he died, Lee Donin entered and won the Brevard County Cook-Off sponsored by the Florida Cowbelles in April, 1978. His winning entry was Chinese Braised Beef with Black beans. This was only the 2nd time he had entered a cooking contest. Donin loved to experiment with food.
Donin said, "Our son, 15-year-old Steven) is hilarious, he said. "When my wife cooks on the weekends he'll sit down and say, "What, nothing exotic? Just plain old food?" Marily is a fine cook and baker but she sticks to the more traditional cooking."
