Booneville---Sophia Lorena Akers, 101, died Wednesday, March 23, 2005, at the Landmark Nursing Home in Booneville. She was born July 12, 1903, in Prentiss County to the late William Pinkney and Emma Smith Akers. A retired schoolteacher, she taught at East Prentiss in Prentiss County, at Hickory Grove and Bassfield in South Mississippi, and at Lone, Hermiston and Lakeview in Oregon. She was a member of Crestwood Baptist Church, where she was a former Sunday School teacher.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at McMillian Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jackie Spencer and Bro. Mike Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Mackey's Creek Cemetery.

Survivors include seven nephews, Mickey Akers, Billy Akers, Robert Akers, Kenneth Akers, Jackie Akers, Sherman Akers and Travis Akers; 11 nieces,; Winna Cunningham and Martha Crow who were her caregivers, and Marie Middlebrooks, Betty Isbell. Myrtle Bridges, Annie Hood, Lela Frances Yarber, Janice Wheelington, Emma Bell Akers, Mary Ellen Day and Linda Clator.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers; Lilburn,George, Reed, Eugene, and Lesli Akers; five nephews, Prentss, J.W., Houston, Freddie and Oscar Akers.

Her nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will continue until service time today.

Memorials may be made to Crestwood Baptist Church or Mackey Creek Cemetery.
