Cecil Madison Keeney (1927-2009)

Cecil Madison Keeney, beloved husband of Ruth C. Keeney, died Jan. 4, 2009.

Surviving are two sons, Michael D. (Liz) and Richard M. (Dawnne); his grandchildren, Sean Keeney (Trish), Amy Grissen (Justin), Natalie Keeney and Nicholas Keeney; great-grandchildren, Christian, Carson and Charlie Keeney, Mason Crouch and Ruthie Grissen and numerous nephews and nieces who all loved him dearly.

Born in Aug. 4, 1927, in Flatwoods, Ky., he was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, a Third Degree Free Mason, a graduate of the University of Kentucky, a former chief engineer of the United States Coast Guard, chairman of Navy Day of New Orleans, Maritime Man of the Year, former owner and CEO of Equitable Shipyard, and owner and former chairman and CEO of Walle Corp.

He was a longtime member of the New Orleans Country Club, has served on numerous boards and was a two time King of the Krewe of Iris with his wife, Ruth serving as his Queen. He and Ruth moved to New Orleans in 1969 from Maryland and have called New Orleans their home. Cecil Keeney was a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend. He was an inspiration to all whose lives he touched. He will be greatly missed.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation beginning at noon Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, with a service to follow at 2 p.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. (in Metairie Cemetery). Interment will follow in All Saints Mausoleum.
