Miss Mamie Brooks was a Southern woman, who came to reside in Philadelphia, Pa. She became a pillar of the community, active in her church and political/social activities. She was well-known in the South Philadelphia area, especially in the vicinity of 13th and Christian St. where she did reside. She is survived by a son, Alfonzo Battise, and Granddaughter, Wenonah A. Nolan, also 5 Great -Grandsons: Alexander Theodore Haman, jr. , Andrew Trent Haman, Eladio Lorenzo (Osorio) Shaw, Isaiah Damien (Osorio) Bouwman, and Victor Israel (Osorio) Bouwman, also one Great-Granddaughter, Amber Rose Wallace. Her legacy lives on at the recreational center at 12th and Carpenter St. where you can still view the tiles of her handprints on the wall of the building.
