A member of a pioneer Arizona family, grandson of David Babbitt IV, one of the founders of the Babbitt Brothers empire, and son of David Babbitt V, Mr. Babbitt carried on the family tradition of public service in Arizona.

He moved to Parker in 1937. He attended high school in Parker and Phoenix, where he graduated. After a brief stint selling insurance, Mr. Babbitt accepted a position with the C.A.A. on Annette Island in southern Alaska where he spent two years. He then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving until 1953 when he was transferred to the U.S. Coast Guard and immediately went from enlisted man to Ensign. He served as officer on the U.S. Coast Guard cutter Androscoggin, stationed off Miami Beach, Fla. After release from the Coast Guard, Lt. Babbitt successfully ran for the Arizona State Legislature from Yuma County where, at age 26, he was the youngest representative elected to date.

After serving his constituents for two years, Mr. Babbitt returned to Parker, where he owned and operated a variety store, convenience store and Babbitt Realty. In 1970 he returned to the University of Arizona to attend law school. He was admitted to the Bar in 1972 and moved back to Parker to establish a private practice.
