Mr. John Russell Freels, Jr., age 65 of Oneida, passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2009 in the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. He was a 1961 graduate of Sunbright High School and a 1966 Graduate of Tennessee Tech. He was employed by the Soil Conservation Service in Oneida until his retirement. He enjoyed hunting and being around his family and friends and especially his grandkids. He will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Patrick Russell Freels, and his mother, Esther Tompkins Freels.
He is survived by his children: Katrina Gayle Hurtt and husband, Trevor Glenn; Joseph Ryan Freels and wife, Alice Marie Shannon Freels of Sunbright; and Jason Freels of Sunbright; his grandchildren who loved him very much and who looked forward to getting suckers: Haley Hannah and Hayden Hurtt, and John and Shannon Freels; father, John Russell Freels of Sunbright; brother, James Alan Freels of Sunbright; sister, Janice Kaye Robbins and husband, Cordell of Sunbright; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive Thursday evening, January 8th, 2009 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Schubert Funeral Home, Sunbright. A funeral service will follow at 8:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. in the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery.
