Frances A. Davis (Davies), 87, died the morning of Jan. 6, 2009, in Edison Manor Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born Aug. 10, 1921, in New Castle, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Gertrude E. Graham Davis.

She was a reporter for five years at the New Castle News. She was also a jewelry department manager for five years at the former Gaylords Department Store, an underwriter at Liberty Mutual for 10 years and a teller at the former Peoples Bank for five years. She was a graduate of New Castle High School and attended the former New Castle Business College for two years. She was past worthy matron with Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 105, and was a member of Wimodausis and very active in the organization for many years. She was an avid bowler. She had also lived in California for a period of time. She was Protestant.

Survivors include a sister, Barbara L. Davis of New Castle; and nine nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by an infant sister, Doris Davis; and three brothers, Thomas A. Davis, Robert H. Davis and Roy M. Davis.

There were no calling hours. Private services were conducted yesterday at the Noga Funeral Home, 1142 S. Mill St. Burial took place in Graceland Cemetery in the family plot, alongside her father and mother.
